September 3, 2016 Launch report

Saturday was another beautiful day to fly rockets. It was pretty hot by the end, but the wind was down all day and we only had occasional issues with clouds. All in all we wound up with 54 flights, and in true AARG tradition, we flew everything from 1/2A to L. I even flew two myself, which stunned everybody.

Longhorn Rocketry Association was out in force again, and they arrived bright and early to help with setup, which was much appreciated. Four members attempted the TRA L1 certifications: Nicolas Diaz, Akshay Kulkarni, Caroline O'Neal, and Amanda Walker. I believe that all were successful (I was out in the field during a couple of the attempts), although Amanda got to demonstrate her field repair skills before succeeding on her second attempt. LRA also flew a nice I470-to-H125 two-stager.

Rick led off the day with Gold Rush on an L1111, which produced a nice straight flight with a perfect recovery. Unfortnately, later in the day he pushed the envelope with his Lil Nuke on an H195, and it separated at apogee, with the airframe burying itself in the field. I think he eventually dug it out.

Gordon Bain flew his Nike Stretch on a K500, which also produced a nice flight.

Early in the day we were visited by a large group of first-timers from the Georgetown 4-H club, and they kept things hopping. I believe they were all flying the Balsa Machining Service 3" school rocket on D12's, so we got to see just how durable that kit is. There were several other newcomers who also flew a bunch of smaller rockets, and we hope to see them again in the future.

And if anybody has any spare igniters, you might let Ken Carey know. He's working on the record for most burnt igniters without actually lighting a motor :-)
